the sea seems somewhat sultry;
the waves break precisely where
they should. the grey skies favor
those moments where clouds
almost pour into the water from
above. they used to be called
the heavens, when man was more
romantic about things. now,
the waves open upon vastness
captured by the tail fin of a dolphin.
against the shimmering expanse, you
can measure infinity by the beating
tide coming in and going out
coming in and going
out and coming
in and going
out again, just like the dolphin
knows. they know the tide comes
in and goes out and comes in
again and goes out to the sea’s
last point of contact with the earth —
as above so below —
